Italian Lakes Holiday Let
Several years ago, when three brothers purchased Villa la Quinta it was merely a shell. After considerable effort, money and inspiration, Villa la Quinta is restored to a level surpassing its former glory. Today, this wonderful property houses six apartments, three of which are home to the intrepid brothers and their children. The remaining three apartments are for our non-smoking guests to enjoy. Villa la Quinta is a couple of miles away from Bellagio. A spacious lawn with lovely gardens that are meticulously kept ends along the lake's shore at a small, furnished rocky cove with direct lake access. Each apartment is assigned its own furnished outdoor dining area with a breathtaking lake view. Even the family's friendly dog meanders about enjoying the scenery. Each apartment offers terracotta flooring, air conditioning and a washing machine. While Torrelago and Moka are cozy in size and without living rooms, they both offer well equipped kitchens. All apartments include in the price: heat, air conditioning, a mid-week towel change and Wi-Fi. The owners of Villa la Quinta have a wine shop in the center of Bellagio. When visiting their establishment, Parker guests are given a complimentary tasting of four wines. From the grounds behind Villa la Quinta, a footpath leads to two tiny lakefront villages. Take a 10 minute walk into the village of San Giovanni offering a village grocer, a small restaurant serving the fishermen's local catch and seasonal ferry service. Continue along the path and within half a mile is the fishing village of Loppia with the entrance to the world renowned, English-style gardens of Villa Melzi. Moka is a few feet from the main narrow road connecting Como to Bellagio. The local bus to Como and Bellagio stops within 50 yards of the villa's main gate with service ending around 7:30 pm. Public transit is a good option for day trips; however, a rental car is a must, since all public transit stops early in the evening. Passenger ferries traverse the lake daily until dusk. A 300 yard walk from the estate grounds leads to San Giovanni where the ferry stops twice in the morning and twice in the late afternoon, from June through September, on its way to Bellagio. The ferry landing in Bellagio offers a more extensive schedule and car ferries for visiting Menaggio, Cadenabbia and Tremezzo within 25 minutes. Scenic tours of the entire lake as well as the splendid gardens of Villa Carlotta and Villa del Balbianello may be enjoyed by ferry. With a combination of ferry and scenic drives, Lake Lugano, Switzerland is just over an hour, and St. Moritz is within 2 hours. Milan airport is only a 90 minute drive away. A tourist tax collected by the town is paid separately on the first seven nights. Children under age 11 are exempt.
