Villa la Quinta - Torrelago

Shopping and dining: From the estate grounds, walk 300 yards to the tiny village of San Giovanni with the Mella seafood restaurant and a small grocery shop. The same pathway leads to the fishing village of Loppia and the entrance to the Villa Melzi gardens within half a mile. Bellagio has a variety of dining and shopping options and is 5 minutes by car.

Not to be missed: The owners' wine shop in Bellagio offers Parker guests staying at Villa la Quinta a tasting of four wines.

Public Transportation: A bus stop with hourly service to Bellagio and Como is 50 yards away. The last bus returning from Bellagio leaves around 7:30 pm. Bellagio's ferry landing with both passenger and car ferries is within a 5 minute drive. Ferry service heads to both the east and west shores and ends at dusk. San Giovanni, within 300 yards, has limited passenger ferry service (June through September) with two morning and two late afternoon ferries to Bellagio taking 10 minutes. Public transit is a good option for trips during the daytime; however, both bus and ferry service stop running early in the evening.

Boat rental: Two miles away in Lezzeno, there is a company that rents small motorized boats for up to 4 people that do not require a boating license. They are open from June to September.

Tennis/Swimming: Bellagio Sporting Club is a complex with a swimming pool, tennis courts and restaurant that's within a 5 minute drive.

Outdoor activities: The San Primo mountain, a winter ski resort is directly behind the Bellagio promontory, a 20 minute drive away. In the summer, it offers excellent terrain for walking, hiking or biking.

Open Air markets: In Bellagio, the morning market is the third Wednesday of every month.
