Nearest Shopping and Dining: Within 500 yards, the tiny village of Sant' Albino has a restaurant, a good pastry shop and a mini-market. Drive 5 minutes to the hill town of Montepulciano with an assortment of fine restaurants, pizzerias, café bars, a supermarket and shops.
Not To Be Missed: Bring your bathing suit and book a half day or evening at the Terme di Chianciano. Just 10 minutes by car, this wellness center offers European treatments centered around medicinal cures. This center is known for its Sensorial Salon, a self guided program with 12 stations including hydromassage pools, sauna and Turkish bath, aromatherapy showers, music therapy and thermal muds.
Public Transportation: The closest main train station with service to Florence and Rome in 90 minutes is located in Chiusi, a 15 minute drive.
Golf: Golf Club Valdichiana - Within a 25-minute drive. Open year round. Closed on Wednesdays from November to February.
Tennis: Tennis S.Albino - Within 500 yards. Open everyday from mid-March to mid-November.
Outdoor Activities: A 15 minute drive. Montepulciano Lake is a small relatively shallow lake surrounded by a 750 acres of thick vegetation providing cover for hundreds of animal and plant species. The whole area is a regional nature sanctuary.
Festivals: Montepulciano's Bravio delle Botti festival during the last week of August. It is a competition of the eight contradas or neighborhoods with two athletes from each division rolling 200 pound barrels along the streets. Celebrations also take place the week before. In Pienza, there is a cheese festival on the first Sunday of September in this capital of sheep's cheese.
Open Air Markets: Morning markets are held in Chiusi on Tuesdays, Chianciano Terme on Wednesdays, Montepulciano on Thursdays, Pienza, Sarteano, and Torrita di Siena on Fridays.
