Keep in mind, there may be slight differences depending on the region you’re visiting or whether you’ll be vacationing in northern or southern Italy. January Weather in Italy 

January will typically be the coldest month of the year in Italy. Even though it’s the coldest month, don’t expect freezing temperatures very often or mountains of snow. After all, Italy is in the Mediterranean, so you can still expect pretty mild temperatures even though it’s winter.

Throughout January, you can expect average daytime temperatures to range from about 50℉ to 60℉, with a gentle breeze on most days. You may see the occasional snowfall, but more often than not you’ll find rain instead — falling about half of the days of the month. So if you’re planning on traveling to Italy in January, bring a jacket and an umbrella to be safe.

February Weather in Italy 

The weather in Italy in February will be similar to what you find in January, but you’ll find it getting a bit milder and staying a little dryer. The sky will usually be overcast in January, and you’ll get a slight breeze most days.

With average daytime temperatures ranging from about 50℉ to 63℉, you’ll notice it start to get warmer towards the end of the month, going into March. Rain is a bit lighter in February, only falling on about 10-12 days of the month. You’ll still want to be sure you have a light jacket and umbrella to get the most out of your trip to Italy.

March Weather in Italy

With March comes the beginning of spring. And with spring, you start getting warmer temperatures. You’ll still be seeing a mostly overcast sky and a bit heavier rainfall than in February. Although it only rains 8-10 days out of the month, the rain may be heavier than in the previous months.

As winter ends and spring begins, you’ll see average daytime temperatures ranging from about 57℉ to 66℉, starting to get pretty comfortable on pleasant afternoons. The mornings and evenings may still get a little chilly, so you’ll want a jacket or some sort of long sleeves. 

April Weather in Italy

Although there is more sunshine throughout the month, you can still expect showers about 12-14 days in April, so plan accordingly. But on the days with sunshine, you’ll typically find average daytime temperatures ranging from about 64℉ to 73℉. So if you enjoy comfortable spring weather, April is a great month to visit Italy. 

May Weather in Italy

The weather in Italy in May will be similar to April, except a bit warmer and with a little less rain — making it one of the best months to experience spring in Italy. Average daytime temperatures in May range from 68℉ to 77℉, providing some of the most comfortable days of the day. 

As clouds start to clear up heading into the summer months, you will see less rain towards the end of May — only falling about 8-10 days of the month on average. So you may still want the umbrella for occasional light showers, but you won’t need it nearly as often. 

June Weather in Italy

Starting off the summer months, June offers some of the best weather you’ll find throughout the year in Italy. Not too hot, not too cold, and not too rainy. If you’re looking to spend your days outdoors exploring the cities or relaxing on the beach, June may be perfect for you.

With rain typically only falling about five days per month and average daytime temperatures range from 73℉ to 84℉, most days will be extremely comfortable. Heading into the summer, keep in mind the UV index. In June in Italy, there is typically a UV index of 9 (scale of 1 to 11). So be sure you pack your sunscreen and sunglasses!

July Weather in Italy

Summer in the Mediterranean is perfect weather for some, but maybe a little warm for others. July weather in Italy typically consists of clear skies, lots of sunlight, and warm temperatures. If you’re planning a beach vacation to Italy and you like warm weather, this is the perfect time to go. 

Average daytime temperatures in July range from around 80℉ to 90℉, with potential heatwaves going even higher. You’ll only see rainfall a few days out of the month, so you’ll have no trouble finding dry days. The UV index remains at 9 through July, so plan accordingly and don’t spend too much time in the sun!

August Weather in Italy

Typically the hottest month of the year in Italy, August is best for those who absolutely love warm weather. Average daytime temperatures in August will usually be above 90℉, and there may be heatwaves with temperatures rising to over 105℉, so be careful outside.

Although it’s hot, August is also usually the driest month of the year, only seeing rain a day or two on average. Even though it’s the hottest month, the UV index drops to an average of 7 in August, so UV exposure isn’t as bad as other summer months. 

September Weather in Italy

Heading into the start of fall, you’ll see the temperature start to drop off towards the end of the month. The Mediterranean offers mild falls with comfortable temperatures and a common light breeze.

Daytime temperatures in September in Italy will range from around 77℉ to 84℉, with the warmer days earlier in the month. It’s still a fairly dry month, only seeing rain about 7 days. You may see the occasional thunderstorm, but your chances are high that you’ll experience warm days and clear skies.

October Weather in Italy

The weather in October in Italy is typically super comfortable, making it the perfect time to explore different cities and experience the brilliant outdoors of Italy. Temperatures will gradually decline through the month, with the first week being the warmest.

In October, the average daytime temperatures will range from about 68℉ to 77℉ with light clouds and a gentle breeze. The rainfall starts to pick back up, but you’ll still only see rain about 10 days of the month, so it shouldn’t be an issue. Just bring your umbrella to be safe, and you’ll be good!

November Weather in Italy

Getting later into the fall months, November weather in Italy is usually comfortable but a bit rainy. The earlier in the month that you come, the milder temperatures and clearer skies you’ll find, so visiting Italy earlier in November is usually the best time of the month.
