The best time of year to visit the Amalfi Coast is late-spring and early-fall, particularly May through early-June and September through late-October. During these times, the temperatures are mild and comfortable and you can explore the coast all day long.

If you’re visiting the Amalfi Coast for the sole purpose of spending time on the beaches and in the breathtaking blue waters, you’ll want to go during the warmer months of June through October. But keep in mind that the temperatures get particularly hot in July and August and can sometimes exceed 100°F or more.

Weather on the Amalfi Coast

The best weather on the Amalfi Coast is found during May, June, September, and October. Along the Amalfi Coast, the spring and fall seasons are both comfortable, with pleasant temperatures ranging from around 70°F to 80°F on most days. The fall months have slightly more rain than the spring, so you might want to consider visiting the coast in the spring if you want to stay dry.

If you’re visiting the Amalfi Coast in the summer, expect hot temperatures that can get up close to 90°F on average, with spikes going even higher. For those who decide to travel to the Amalfi Coast in the winter, you can expect lots of rainfall and average daytime temperatures to only reach the mid-50s.

Best Time for Outdoor Activities: Mid-April through Early-June and September through October

Most people want to visit the Amalfi Coast to take in the breathtaking views of the landscape and sea, explore the many towns and cities, and relax on the beaches. The best time to visit the Amalfi Coast for these and other outdoor activities is mid-April through early-June and September through October.

Average daytime temperatures during these months will range from the low 60s°F to the mid 80s°F, perfect for hanging out outside and exploring as much of the coast as you can. During the summer months between these times, the temperature outside will be too hot, often exceeding 100°F or higher, making it incredibly uncomfortable.

Outdoor activities are also better when you aren’t forced to spend hours waiting in line or sharing the beach with crowds, another big bonus of traveling during these months. Right before and right after the peak travel season, there will be far smaller crowds to deal with.

So no matter what you want to do outdoors, these are the best times to make the trip of your dreams come to life. Head to Positano and relax on the beach. Maybe go to Ravello for the best views of the Coast. Or head to Sorrento to take in the Amalfi Coast lifestyle and get a truly authentic experience. No matter how you want to enjoy your trip, these are the best months to do it.

Best Time for Honeymooners: May through early-June and mid-September through October

Planning a honeymoon to the Amalfi Coast is one of the best possible ways to cap off a new marriage, but you want the trip to be perfect. The best time to visit the Amalfi Coast for honeymooners is May through June and mid-September through October.

During these months, temperatures on the Amalfi Coast are at their most comfortable while also having a relatively low chance of rain (the rainy season starts in late-June). These months are also just before and just after the big peak summer travel season. This means honeymooners will be able to avoid crowds while enjoying the incredible coast.

If you want your honeymoon to include relaxing on the beaches and swimming in the sea, then focus on the early-June and mid-September time frames here to get the warmer temperatures for those activities.

But if you and your new spouse want to avoid crowds as much as possible and you’re more into exploring the cities and towns rather than relaxing on the beach, consider even visiting during the winter. This is the season with the lowest crowds and the least amount of rain, but it does get chilly overnight.

Best Time for Budget Travelers: Late-November through February

The best time to travel to the Amalfi Coast for anyone on a budget is late-fall through winter, particularly late-November through February, except around the major holidays. This is the time of year when tourism is at its lowest and prices are dropped accordingly to draw more visitors in.

During the warmer months, tourists and locals from all over Italy travel to the Amalfi Coast for their summer beach vacation. Because of this popularity, hotels and businesses along the coast can hike up their prices to maximize profits during the peak travel season.

Everything goes down in price during the winter months because fewer people travel to the area since it’s too cold for the beaches and for many other outdoor activities, especially for other Italians. The one big bonus to traveling to the Amalfi Coast during this time is that the crowds are minimal.

If you decide to brave it out and make the journey to the Amalfi Coast during the winter, make sure you take full advantage by doing as much as you possibly can. Without having to contend with crowds and also getting a bargain on just about everything, the Amalfi Coast will be your oyster. Enjoy it!

Best Time for Going to the Beaches: June through Early-July and September through October

If you’re planning on going to the Amalfi Coast to enjoy the fantastic beaches all around, you’ll want to plan your trip for sometime in June through early-July or September through October. During these months, the temperatures will be warm enough to be spending time on the beaches, but the crowds won’t be too bad.

While you might have seen other recommendations to go during the summer if you’re planning on spending a lot of time at the beaches, most of July and August are simply not the best times to visit. The crowds and prices will be at their highest, and the temperatures will often be too hot and uncomfortable. If you do love the beach and warm temperatures and decide to visit in late July or August, be prepared for high temperatures of up to 100°F and the sun beating down on you.

The months we suggest provide the best of both worlds, smaller crowds, and comfortable temperatures. So head over to Positano and spend some time relaxing on the coast. The soft sand beaches beneath your feet and the warm water of the sea, it’s all at your fingertips. Whatever you do, make sure you enjoy yourself and have the trip of a lifetime.
